Some day I'm going to make my version of this inspirational quilt. I have about half of the fabric, some from my stash, some bought. I will watch the old six-part movie, and invite the girls over for a serious tea party.

Eye Spy Quilt
Homestead Instead 2010
I made this quilt rather spontaneously. I wanted to make something 'by myself' with no set pattern, although I knew I wanted something 'Amish-y". It grew from two little squares put together and then more and more until I decided this was definitely going to be a finished product. As my son and daughter-in-law had to cancel/postpone their trip to Italy for their 8th wedding anniversary, I decided this was going to be their gift. It represents all the little activities that happen in their lives - mostly buying and moving into a new home. Life was too busy to get to Italy! So, as a sort of consolation, I named the quilt 'Homestead Instead", as they had now put their roots down and began developing their new 'homestead' instead of going to Italy. This is a life decision, that changed the direction of their little family, probably forever. I hope as they wrap themselves around with this quilt, the lively colours and flavours of their new homestead will bless them with the knowledge that sometimes in life, you can't get to Italy, but right where you are is the best place to be.
